Cain and Abel

The power of words

Adam and Eve were banished from the Garden of Eden as a result of losing Satan’s temptation and sinning against God (Genesis chapter 3). Then they were given children. The Bible says:

1 Adam knew his wife, Eve. She gave birth to Cain in a muffled manner and said, “I got a boy by the Lord.” 2 She then gave birth to her brother Abel again. Abel became a sheepkeeper and Cain became a soil plower. (Genesis 4: 1,2)

Exiled from the Garden of Eden, Adam and Eve were given great comfort by being given children. Solomon sang. Look. Children are the gift of the Lord, and the fruit of the womb is the reward (Psalm 127: 3). God said, ” Birth, grow. Fill the earth ” (Genesis 1:28), but the first step in its realization has begun .

Any work is small at first. At first, humanity was only Adam and Eve, but Cain was given and Abel was given. And the human race has increased and spread, and it has reached the present. So is the Christian church. At first there were only 120 disciples (Acts 1:15). But now there are hundreds of millions of Christians. Your beginning is small, but the end is huge (Job 8: 7). ” Please broaden my territory. ” (I Chronicles 4:10)

Parents expect from their children. Therefore, the parents’ ideals and wishes appear in the child’s name. Cain means “obtained”. In other words, I think they believed in the word of God’s promise that “her offspring would trample Satan’s head” (Genesis 3:15) and expected this child to do it. This Word was fulfilled through Jesus Christ. The Son of God appeared to destroy the work of the devil (1 John 3: 8).

The next born was Abel. Abel means “breathing”. In other words, to breathe. Adam was shaped from the dust of the land, and his nose was breathed into life and became a living person (Genesis 2: 7). It was destroyed by sin and became dead (Genesis 2:17, 3:19). Maybe Adam and Eve named their second son Abel in hopes of their recovery. Of course, the atonement for sin had to wait for the cross of Jesus Christ. The reward that comes from sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life in our Lord Christ Jesus (Romans 6:23).

Eventually the children grew up, Abel became a sheepkeeper, and Cain became a soil plower. Clothing, food and shelter are three elements of life. Abel produced wool for clothes and tents, and Cain produced food. It was a division of labor for life and cooperation. I think the same can be said at home, in church, and at work. Each has its own role. There is no superiority or inferiority there. Just as there are many organs in one body and not all organs work the same, at most we are one body in Christ and each one is an organ.( Romans 12: 4,5).
