The Garden of Eden

The power of words

The Garden of Eden means “delight”. The center of God’s delight was humans. Every time God did the work of creation, he repeatedly said “good”, but only after he created humans, he was overjoyed that he said “very good.” Therefore, the place where humans live was named “Eden” which means joy, and people were placed there. The Bible says:

8 The Lord God set up a garden in Eden to the east, where the man who shaped the Lord was placed. 9 The Lord God has grown from the land all the trees that are good to see and good to eat. In the center of the garden, a tree of life and a tree of knowledge of good and evil were grown. 10 A river came out of Eden to moisten the garden, and separated from it into four sources. 11 The name of the first one is Pichon. It flows all over Havila. There was gold there. 12 The gold in the area was of good quality, and there was also aromatic resin and onyx. 13 The name of the second river is Gihon. It flows all over Kush. 14 The name of the third river is Tigris. It flows east of Assur. The fourth river, the Euphrates. (Bible Genesis 2: 8-14)

In the center of the Garden of Eden was a tree of life and a tree of knowledge of good and evil. The tree of life is a tree that does not die physically when eaten. This is later what God has said to the sinners Adam and Eve. ” Now let him reach out, take from the tree of life and eat, and not live forever ” (Genesis 3:22). The tree of knowledge of good and evil is a tree that dies when eaten. ” When you take it and eat it, you will surely die. ” (Genesis 2:17)　

There is also a tree of life in New Earth. It is written in the last book of the Bible, the Revelation of John. The angel also showed me a river of water of life that glowed like a crystal. It came out of the throne of God and the Lamb and flowed through the center of the main street of the city. There were trees of life on both banks of the river, and twelve kinds of fruits were produced, and every month. The leaves also healed the peoples of the nations(Revelation 22: 1-2). The “one river” as the source in the Garden of Eden flows out as four rivers to moisturize the entire garden, but this “one river” is a new heaven in Revelation 22: 1. It becomes the “river” of the water of life that flows from the throne of God in the new land. We can see that the first Genesis and the last Revelation of the Bible are connected by a single line.

Eden was in the Mesopotamia region. It is said to be Iraq today. In addition to joy, Eden also means “a place that is well moisturized in every corner.” Pichon means “to spring up”. Gihon means “blowing”, Tigris means “torrent”, and Euphrates means “sweetness”. These four rivers, as the name implies, were God’s overflowing blessings and supplies to humans.

The now-lost Garden of Eden will be restored in the Millennial Kingdom. A prophecy of recovery is made in Ezekiel chapter 47 of the Old Testament. 9 Wherever this river flows, all the creatures that swarm there will live and there will be a great many fish. This is because when this water enters, the water there becomes better. Everything lives where this river enters. 12 On the banks of the river, on both banks, all fruit trees grow, their leaves do not die, and their fruits never die, and they bear new fruits every month. Because the water is flowing out of the sanctuary. The fruit becomes food and the leaves become medicine.

Jesus Christ is “the water of life.” He told Samaritan woman who was drawing water from the well. ” Anyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again. But whoever drinks the water I give will never be thirsty. The water I give will be a fountain in him and will be for eternal life. “(John 4: 13,14)

Also Jesus said like this. “If anyone is thirsty, come to me and drink. Those who believe in me, as the Bible says, will have a river of living water flowing from the depths of their hearts.” This is the Spirit that those who believe in Jesus will receive later. (John 7: 37-39)

It is interesting that Jesus Christ, the main character of the Bible, is the “water of life.” Jesus Christ, the water of life, exists as a link between the rivers of the Garden of Eden and the rivers of the New Heavens and New Earth, and as a central point. Jesus gives us eternal life.
