Narrow road and wide road

The power of words

While Cain’s descendants rapidly fell, God gave the Adam couple a Seth. Seth means “alternative”. He replaced Abel, who was killed by Cain. And Enosh was given to this Seth.

²⁵Adam made love to his wife again, and she gave birth to a son and named him Seth, saying, “God has granted me another child in place of Abel, since Cain killed him.” ²⁶Seth also had a son, and he named him Enosh. At that time people began to call on the name of the Lord. (Genesis 4:25, 26)

Enosh means “human”. Perhaps Seth wanted Enosh to remember the human figure created in the “image of God” and return to that figure. The parents’ wishes were answered. Enosh did not build a town like Cain, nor did he build a godless civilization like the children of Lamech. He built an altar like Abel and began to pray (verse 26). Abel also brought the best of his firstborn sheep, the Lord’s attention to Abel and his offerings (Genesis 4: 4). It was a revival in Adam’s family. We need revival in our homes and in our churches. It begins with true worship and prayer in the name of the Lord. In fact, Enoch and Noah were born from this family, and finally Jesus Christ was born.

²³Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. ²⁴God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth.” (John 4:23, 24)

12 Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship. ²Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.(Romans 12: 1, 2)

The path of Cain is the path of destruction. The road is wide. The road of Seth is the road of salvation. The road is narrow. Many people do not choose the path of Seth and follow the path of Cain. Jesus said. ¹³“Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. ¹⁴But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it. (Matthew 7: 13, 14)

May we are able to use Cain and Lamech as teachers by negative example, and Abel, Seth, and Enosh as teachers by good example.
