For out of the overflow of the heart the mouth speaks. (NIV Bible Matthew 12:34)
The important thing is to be inside, not outside. Of course, it may be possible to prepare the exterior to some extent, including talking. In his book The 7 Habits, Stephen Covey wrote, ” There can be no true success without the right way of life ….. Even among those who are blessed with superficial success (social evaluation of talent, etc.) Some people haven’t achieved success (having a good personality) . “
Jesus said, “The mouth speaks of being full of heart.” The more holy our heart is, the better our language and life will be. However, unless we change our mind, our words and life will not change at all. It can be said that the words that come out without thinking express the true intention of the person. Words are a mirror of the mind and reflect oneself. The question is what fills my heart.
Jesus says in verse 33: If the tree is good, the fruit is good, and if the tree is bad, the fruit is bad. The goodness of the tree is known by its fruit. The heart is the root and the words are fruit. If the nature of the tree(heart) is good, the fruit (word) will be good accordingly. If the nature of the tree is bad, it will produce bad fruits accordingly.
Jesus teaches that the roots of words and deeds are rooted in the person’s own personality. Therefore, I think it is necessary to be careful not to decorate the surface (outside) to improve the appearance, but to improve the mind (inside). If we have a bitter root in our heart, we have to pull it out.
Covey wrote: ” If you try to make a big change in your life, you will not be fascinated by the” leaves “of actions and attitudes, but the” root “of the paradigm (viewing and understanding of things) that is the source of those actions and attitudes. You have to work on it. “
There is such a word in Proverbs 4:23 of the Bible. Watch as much as you can and watch over your heart. The fountain of life is about to come. Spiritual life springs from within us through our best efforts to keep an eye on our hearts and watch over them.
Finally, I would like to introduce Covey’s words. ” Inside-out means starting by changing one’s inner side, and by changing one’s own fundamental paradigm, personality, motives, etc. ” I think that personality is the most important.
