Noah and the Flood

⁹This is the account of Noah and his family. Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked faithfully with God. ¹⁰Noah had three sons: Shem, Ham and Japheth.¹¹Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence. ¹²God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. ¹³So God said to Noah, “I am going to put an end to all people, for the earth is filled with violence because of them. I am surely going to destroy both them and the earth. (Genesis 6: 9-13)

This is where the fourth division of Genesis begins. This continues until 9:29. Noah was the right person. Of course, it does not mean that it was as perfect as God. Even in bad times, Noah was a perfect man and a man who walked with God. It was like his ancestor Enoch.

²¹When Enoch had lived 65 years, he became the father of Methuselah. ²²After he became the father of Methuselah, Enoch walked faithfully with God 300 years and had other sons and daughters. ²³Altogether, Enoch lived a total of 365 years. ²⁴Enoch walked faithfully with God; then he was no more, because God took him away.(Genesis 5: 21-24)

This 21st century, in which we live, is also an era of rebellion against God. However, like Noah, we want to choose to walk with God even in this era. I think walking with God means rejoicing in what God rejoices and hating what God hates.

Noah means “comfort” (Genesis 5:29), his birth comforted his father Lamech. At the same time, how much comfort did God have? God was very sad when he saw this earth. ¹¹Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight and was full of violence¹²God saw how corrupt the earth had become, for all the people on earth had corrupted their ways. (Genesis 6: 11,12)

The violence that appears here is a rebellion against God. And the disorder is a sexual disorder. God created men into men and women, and blessed them, saying, ” Birth. Grow. Fill the earth. ” (Genesis 1:28). However, there were strict conditions for that. It’s monogamy. That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh. (Genesis 2:24). However, Lamech broke that principle and took a second wife (Genesis 4:19). The most hated of God are idolatry and sexual disorder (immorality).

But when he saw Noah, God comforted him. I think that it is fortunate to have someone who can comfort God and others. Noah walked with God by faith. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that is in keeping with faith. (Hebrews 11: 7)

Noah’s faith was pleased by God. By building the ark, he was able to escape the Flood Judgment with his family. He was saved and justified by faith.
