The description of the first three days of creation and the description of the last three days are parallel. Light (1st day) -Shining thing (4th day), Sea and heaven (2nd day) -Fish and birds (5th day), Earth and plants (3rd day) -Land animals and humans (6th day).
14 God said. “There is a shining thing in the heavenly sky, distinguish between day and night. For the sign, for the season, for the day, for the year. 15 And it becomes a shining thing in the heavenly sky and illuminates the earth. . “That’s what happened. 16 God made two great shining things. The larger shining thing controlled the day, and the smaller shining thing controlled the night. Another star was made. 17 God placed them in the sky of heaven, illuminating the earth, 18 and governing day and night, to distinguish between light and darkness. God was happy to see it. 19 There was evening and there was morning. Fourth day. (Bible Genesis 1: 14-19)
The difference between light and shining things is that the latter is supposed to control day and night. The larger shining thing will control the daytime with the sun, and the smaller shining thing will control the night with the moon. The distinction between light and darkness (verse 4), day and night (verse 5), and evening and morning (verse 5) was already made by God’s work. The source of light on the first day was not the sun. It can be said that God himself is the light. There is no night anymore. They do not need the light of the lamp or the light of the sun, because the Lord God will illuminate them(Revelation 22: 5). There was no sun at the beginning of the Bible, also there is no sun in the last Revelation of the Bible. The capital(heaven) does not need the sun or moon to illuminate it. For the glory of God illuminates the city, and the lamb is the light of the city(Revelation 21:23).
However, from the fourth day, the shining things (sun and moon, stars) begin to separate the already existing day and night. These shining things have become signs for the day, the season, and the year, illuminating the earth in the heavenly sky, controlling day and night, and controlling light and darkness. These were all preparations for the human beings that would be created in due course. God has prepared for us humankind. Also, God still governs and maintains these. But in the last days these things will fade. I think this sign is beginning to appear in the 21st century.
Jesus spoke about the end in this way. But soon after these hardships, the sun darkens, the moon does not shine, the stars fall from heaven, and all things in heaven are shaken (Matthew 24:29).
In this era, darkness covers the earth, and darkness covers the people of the nations. But Jesus is the light. Jesus, the light, is shining in the darkness. Jesus said. ” You are the light of the world. ” (Matthew 5:14) Isaiah 60: 1 says “Arise, shine ,for your light has come.” May we brighten the world today by emitting light.
20 God said. “Flock of creatures in the water. Birds fly over the earth and in the sky of heaven.” 21 God created the beast of the sea, all the creatures that flock to the water according to their species, and their wings according to their species. God was happy to see it. 22 God blessed them. “Grow. Fill the waters of the sea. And the birds grow on the ground.” 23 There was evening and there was morning. Fifth day. (Bible Genesis 1: 20-23)
God created fish and birds on the fifth day (verse 21). God first made fish and then birds. He blessed them and said, “Grow, fill the waters of the sea, and increase the number of birds on the ground.” Creation comes first, followed by breeding.
Breeding (giving birth) is not something that organisms automatically possess, but the result of God’s creation. Breeding was a blessing given to living things by God (verse 22). This is where the word “blessing” first appears in the Bible. The word blessing in the Bible means “breeding” or “growth” by God. Jesus blessed five loaves and two fish, and raised the miracle of feeding: more loaves and fish to feed 5,000 people (Matthew 14: 19-21).
What God is trying to give us is “life.” However, human sin takes life and brings death. The Bible says. The reward for sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life in our Lord Christ Jesus(Romans 6:23). If life and death are in front of you, choose life. I will put life and death, blessings and curses before you. Now choose life(Deuteronomy 30:19).
