Turning point of life Paul scales from the eyes

Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. (Bible NIV Acts 9:18)

There was a turning point in the life of Saul (later Paul). This can be seen from the word “scales from the eyes.” Saul was blind, but he was able to see and his spiritual eyes were opened.

“Scales from the eyes” is a word that means that we can suddenly understand what we did not understand before. Originally a Bible word, it has come to be used in proverbs.

Until then, Saul was a persecutor of Christians. But on the way to Damascus, a dazzling light from heaven illuminated him, and he fell to the ground and heard a voice saying, “Saul, Saul. Why do you persecute me?” When he said, “Lord, who are you?”, He answered, “I am Jesus you are persecuting.” It was the Christians and the church that he persecuted. But Jesus said, “I am the one you are persecuting.”

Saul stood up from the ground, but he couldn’t see anything with his eyes open. When a man named Ananya was sent to Saul and put his hand on Saul and prayed, something like Saul’s “scales from his eyes” fell and he became visible (Acts 9: 1-18).

This event completely changed Saul. He suddenly became able to understand what he had never known before. It became a turning point in his life. Those who persecute Christianity have been transformed into those who convey Christianity. It has undergone an amazing transformation.

Until then, Christianity was mostly limited to Israel (Jews), but with the advent of Saul, Christianity became a world religion. It now has the largest number of believers in the world. It is largely due to Paul’s work. Saul was exactly the vessel of God’s choice.

He was a top-notch missionary (evangelist) and a theologian (bible scholar). He went on three world missions (around AD 45-48, around 50-53, around 54-57), told many people Jesus Christ, and started a new church (a gathering of Christians) everywhere he went. (When I went to the next place, he delegated the responsibility of the church to another person). These three world missions have laid the foundation for Christianizing Europe.

In addition, Paul’s 13 letters are contained in the New Testament. Letters to the Romans, in particular, continue to have a major impact on church history & world history. It can be said that Martin Luther’s Reformation began when he studied the Romans and his “scales from the eyes” fell.

There is much to learn from Paul in the 21st century. If you want to study Paul theology, why not first read the book of the British New Testament scholar NT Wright, who is said to be the most famous theologian in the world today.
