Cain false worship

God noticed Abel’s offering, but not Cain’s offering. It is written in the Bible like this.

⁵but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. ⁶Then the Lord said to Cain, “Why are you angry? Why is your face downcast? ⁷If you do what is right, will you not be accepted? But if you do not do what is right, sin is crouching at your door; it desires to have you, but you must rule over it.” (Genesis 4: 5-7)

What made the difference? It was through his offering that Abel worshiped from the realization that he was a sinner and needed forgiveness of sins, whereas Cain was not, proud of his labor. Abel slaughtered the firstborn sheep and worshiped God “bleeding”, but Cain did not “bleeding” worship. That was the decisive difference between the two.

In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness. (Hebrews 9:22)

Their parents (Adam and Eve) with their own leaves couldn’t stand before God, so God gave them animals. They should have known that they had prepared a leather garment. Even so, the way they worship was completely different.

We also worship God, but unfortunately not everyone’s worship is accepted by God and caught in the eyes of God. Repentance and humility are essential for worship. God pleases humbleness. David praised. My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. (Psalm 51:17)

Humble is to admit that we are wrong, without justifying ourselves. God hates pride the most. It is a spirit that always makes oneself righteous. God lowers those who are proud. All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, “God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble. Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. (1 Peter 5: 5,6)

Cain was motivated and grateful to work. But he didn’t plead guilty. So, of course, there was no repentance. In the New Testament, he stood before God not by the righteousness of his own deeds but by the righteousness of faith . He had no faith. On the other hand, Abel realized that he was a sinner through his parents who wore leather clothes, and they shook the sheep, shed blood, and stood before God. God was holy and did not think he could approach God without blood. He obeyed God’s way. It also became a confession of faith in the coming Lamb of God, Jesus Christ.

By faith Abel brought God a better offering than Cain did. By faith he was commended as righteous, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith Abel still speaks, even though he is dead. (Hebrews 11: 4)

In a sense, Cain created the world’s first religion. Religion is the idea and creation of human beings and the attempt to approach God in their own way. It’s just like Adam and Eve trying to hide their shame by preparing their own leaves. Cain denied God’s revelation of the salvation of blood redemption to his father Adam. He did not obey God’s method. Cain was the representative of the “Snake’s Sue” and Abel was the representative of the “Woman’s Sue”.

God did not pay attention to both Cain and what Cain offered. He should have humbly sought the will of God when he and his offerings were not accepted by God. But he was indignant on the contrary. From this time on, his fall began.

There is always the road of Cain and the road of Abel in front of us. It is the way to rely on ourselves (the way of death) and the way to rely on God (the way of life). Let’s choose life, not death.
