The final third movie of “The Lord of the Rings” is “The Return of the King”. The white wizard Gandalf and the Hobbit Pippin arrive at Minas Tirith, the capital of the Gondor kingdom, and announce that the attack of Sauron is imminent.
Minas Tirith is besieged by an evil army of over 200,000 orcs. The Mordor army breaks through the gates of Minas Tirith, but is managed by the Rohan army (including Mary of the Hobbit) who comes to the rescue. In addition, human Aragorn, elf Legolas, and dwarf Gimli join the battle. The Gondor soldiers, the Rohan soldiers led by King Théoden, and the Allied forces of Aragorn and others made great sacrifices, but managed to prevent them. However, because it is certain that Sauron will re-attack, so Gandalf and Aragorn attack the black gate of the Barad-Dua Tower, where Sauron lives to attract the Mordor army for Hobbit’s Frodo and Sam who safely reach the mountain of destruction without being found in the eyes of Sauron, and melt the “ring” with flames.
Frodo and Sam go through the wilderness of Mordor. Encounter the Orc Army, but manage to escape by dressing in Orc and disguising himself. Gandalf’s plans to distract Sauron from the ring went well, Mordor was almost empty, most of the orcs were sent out to confront the army led by Gandalf and Aragorn. After a tough and dangerous journey, Frodo and Sam finally reached the mountain of destruction. Frodo tries to throw the ring into the mountain of destruction (in the flames), but at the very end, he succumbs to the power of the “ring”, the temptation of sin and evil, and tries to own the “ring”. No matter how many times Sam shouts to throw it away, Frodo doesn’t listen. At that time, Gollum, who was following Frodo and Sam, attacked Frodo, biting his finger and robbing the ring. Gollum rejoices when he finally regains the ring he’s been looking for a long time, but he loses his balance and falls into flames with the ring and dies.
It is written in the Bible. The reward for sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life in our Lord Christ Jesus. (Romans 6:23) Frodo, the protagonist who was thought to be a good man, thought he could do it, but in the end Frodo was powerless in front of the power of the ring. He couldn’t overcome the power of sin himself. Salvation is grace. Without God’s intervention, we cannot be saved. Religion strives from bottom to top to reach God. However, as seen in Frodo, humans are so weak and imperfect that they can never throw away their rings (sin) on their own. But Christ has done what humans cannot do. Christ, the God, came down from top to bottom, from heaven to earth, to save people. Born as a human baby to save people. That is the Christmas message. Salvation was done by the power of God. That is why it is a grace.
The ring was finally destroyed and Middle-earth was released from the rule of Sauron (the devil). The mountain of destruction explodes, and Frodo and Sam are about to die surrounded by lava, but Gandalf’s Steller’s sea eagle helps. Due to the destruction of Sauron, the Orc (evil) army was destroyed from the black gate of Mordor. In “Two Towers”, the Orsank Tower, which towered over Isengard, the home of Salman, collapsed, and in “Return of the King”, the Barad-Dua Tower of Mordor, which was the home of Sauron, collapsed. In this way, the battle between good (God) and evil (Devil) is over. God has defeated the devil. Frodo and Sam reunited with their “the fellowship of the ring.” And they were honored.
Aragorn, the spectator of Isildua, who once defeated Sauron, be crowned as “King of Gondor” at Minas Tirith. Frodo carried the ancient Gondor crown, and Gandalf placed a “crown” on Aragorn’s head. Then he has a wedding with the elf Elrond’s daughter Arwen.
The Hobbits, who fulfilled their mission to bury the “ring” (sin) that destroys the world, exchanged farewell greetings with their traveling companions and returned to The Shire for the first time in a long time. Mary and Pippin rule Bach and Tuk, respectively. Sam marries Rosie Cotton, who has long thought of him, and is given a daughter. Frodo did not completely recover from the wounds stabbed by the enemy and the wounds that lost his fingers.
Finally, Frodo puts into practice what he had been worried about since returning to The Shire. He decides to travel to the Elven Country with Gandalf, his uncle Bilbo Baggins (originally taking over the ring from him), and many elves. The Shire was no longer home to Frodo. Throughout his journey, his outlook on life and values have changed completely. He longed for the eternity, the immortality of the elves.
There is a passage in the Bible that says this. But in fact, they longed for a better home, their heavenly home. Therefore, God was not ashamed to be called their God. In fact, God has prepared a city for them. (Hebrews 11:16)
Mary, Pippin, and Sam watch Frodo who travel to his hometown (heaven) with Gandalf, Bilbo, and the elves. The story begins with a journey to throw away the ring (sin), but ends with a journey to the elf country (heaven) for eternal life.
