There are about 80 references to demons in the Bible. On the other hand, the mention of angels is about 300 times. Fortunately, there are more references to angels, but there are also quite a few references to the devil. The Bible is a book that cannot be understood without angels and demons. Continuing from the last time, I wrote about the devil this time as well.
1) What is the origin of the devil?
The devil did not exist from the beginning. Only the Trinity God has existed since the beginning of eternity. The devil is nothing more than a creature created by God. God did not creat the devil, Lucifer, an angel, became proud and rebelled against God, so he was banished from heaven and became a fallen angel devil. Please refer here for details. ( Https://canaan.blog/lucifer/ )
Answer: As a result of rebellion against God, he was banished from heaven and turned from an angel to a fallen angel devil.
2) How is the devil called?
The most common Greek word for devil is “diabolos”, meaning “devil, adversary, whistleblower”. Originally, it was Lucifer (the morning star). It was the most shining star among the stars (angels) (Isaiah 14:12). Perhaps he was given the position and honor to be next to God. However, as a result of exceeding his own share and becoming proud, he was judged and dropped by God and became a devil. The last book of the Bible, the Revelation, contains many references to the devil and is an essential part of understanding the devil.
Revelation 20: 2 says: He (a good angel) captures a dragon, an old snake that is a devil and Satan, and binds it for a thousand years. Devil (Satan) is described as a dragon, a snake. In the Bible, dragons and snakes are often used to describe the devil.
In Revelation 12: 3, it appears as a large red dragon. And Revelation 12: 9 says: Thus, this giant dragon, the old snake, called the devil or Satan, who misleads the whole world, was thrown down. He was thrown to the ground, and his messengers were thrown with him. The devil is the one who misleads the whole world. It hasn’t changed in the past and now. When Lucifer rebelled against God, a battle broke out in heaven. It was not God who fought at that time. The same angel, Michael, fought against Lucifer and won. And Lucifer was thrown from heaven to the earth, and the fallen angels who followed Lucifer were also thrown to the earth with Lucifer and became evil spirits.

The devil is also called a snake. The last book of the Bible is the Revelation, but the first book of the Bible is the Book of Genesis. The snake, the devil, appeared in Genesis chapter 3 and tempted and deceived the first humans, Adam and Eve. As a result, Adam and Eve, like the devil, rebelled against God and fell. Sin and death have entered this world. Since then, humanity has become unhappy.
There are various other names, but here are some typical ones.
The first is the person who tries. The devil tried the first human Adam, but also seduced the last Adam, Jesus. It is written in Matthew 4: 3 as follows. Then the one who tried came up and said. “If you are the Son of God, command these stones to become bread.” Jesus said, “A man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes out of God’s mouth.” (Matthew 4: 4) He used the Words of Scripture, was victory in the devil of temptation. Adam lost the temptation, but Jesus was victorious. Judas, one of Jesus’ 12 disciples, was also tempted by the devil and betrayed Jesus because he was deceived (Luke 22: 3).
The devil is a liar and a liar father (John 8:44). It falsely rules the world (John 14:30). This is what John 5:19 says. We belong to God, but we know that the whole world is under the control of the bad. The devil rules the world with lies, so it is also called the god of the world (2 Corinthians 4: 4).
Answer: Typical names for the devil are dragons, snakes, false fathers, and gods of the world.
3) What is the devil doing? What is the purpose of the devil?
The purpose of the devil is to interfere with God’s plan, prevent the expansion of God’s kingdom, and expand Satan’s kingdom. He just wants to be a god. Above all, he wants to be worshiped like a true God. He tempted Adam and Eve, “Do you want to be like God?” And corrupted the first people, Adam and Eve, but still misleads people, “Do you want to be like God?” He is working to keep themselves away from the true God.
The devil basically tries to destroy people by using evil spirits. The devil does not approach people in a way that can be identified as a devil. It approaches people like an angel of light. This is what it says in 2 Corinthians 11:14. Even Satan disguises himself as an angel of light. At first, it pretends to be a blessing to others like an angel of light, but in the end it causes ruin. It may seem like a blessing for the moment, but if you open your heart to the devil, you are heading for destruction. The devil knows he’s going to hell, so he’s trying to use evil spirits to increase the number of companions to hell with them.
They tell a lie. Being the god of this world, he enters all territories and misleads people. It’s worth remembering that the major media in particular are under Satan’s control. If most of the sources are major television and newspapers, you might end up in an environment that is easy to fall into Satan’s trap.
What the devil hates most is that the words of truth are spoken. Therefore, He tries to keep people away from the gospel (2 Corinthians 4: 4). If a person gets the word of the Bible and gains salvation and freedom, he will try to loose, doubt, and take away his trust in the word of God (Matthew 13:19, 1Timothy 4: 1). He urged Adam and Eve to question God and His Word, “Did God really say?” (Genesis 3: 1). Angels also have classes, but the devil’s world also has classes, and they have strategies and tricks to destroy people (Ephesians 6: 11,12, ⅡCorinthians2:11).
Evil spirits try to attach themselves to the human body. And it tries to control the body and mind. The Bible tells us that a demon causes a mental disorder (Matthew 8:28). Evil spirits prefer to live in the human body. We need to keep this in mind. When Jesus tried to drive the evil spirits out of them, the evil spirits asked him to join the herd of pigs. Jesus allowed it. They were not allowed to enter the human body, so they begged Jesus to enter the pig’s body (Matthew 8:31, 32). One of the prominent works of Jesus was the exorcism in Christianity. In the evening, people brought a large number of demon-possessed people. Jesus cast out the demons with Words and healed all the sick (Matthew 8:16 ).
There are illnesses caused by evil spirits. When Jesus saw the crowd running up, he scolded the unclean spirits. “A spirit that is deaf. I command you. Get out of this child. Never enter this child again.” (Mark 9:25). Then the evil spirit went out from this child. For 18 years, there was a woman who was obsessed with the spirit of illness and couldn’t stretch her hips, but when Jesus prayed, she was released from the bondage of evil spirits, healed her illness, and was able to stretch her hips (Luke13: 11-13). Some people were obsessed with evil spirits and could not speak, but when Jesus expelled them, they became able to speak (Matthew 9:32, 33).
Psychosis and illness caused by evil spirits can only be expelled by Jesus. It cannot be fixed by a doctor or psychiatrist. Because this is a spiritual issue, not a physical and mental issue. This area is not very open in Japan yet. However, such problems are beginning to occur in Japan as well. The evil spirit phenomenon is more prominent overseas. Because this is a view from my experience, I think it’s because it’s not in the light. In the time of Jesus, when Jesus came to an area, some people were demon-possessed in the darkness. When the light hits, the darkness is revealed. When the light hits, the evil spirit phenomenon increases. The devil is hiding and trying to carry things. Bad things will be done in the dark at night. Because it cannot be found, it is not noticed. However, when Jesus, the light, comes, evil spirits cannot hide. Jesus expelled the demons from them, freed them, and healed them. The same thing was done through Jesus’ disciples, and it is happening all over the world today. In Japan, the Holy Spirit has not been fully worked, so the darkness has not been revealed. Unfortunately, evil spirits can be hidden. However, I expect that this situation will change gradually. The signs may seem a little visible. It’s still not as good as overseas.
Answer: The purpose of the devil is to destroy humans, to ruin life.
4) What is the fate of the devil?
The devil was defeated in the battle in heaven, exiled from heaven (Revelation 12: 7-9), cursed in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3: 14,15), and failed to tempt in the wilderness (Matthew 4:1-11), defeated on the cross (1 John 3: 8). Now God is temporarily allowed to work on this earth. But when the time of God comes, that is, when Jesus comes back, the devil is trapped in a bottomless hole and thrown into fire and sulfur (hell). The devil who misled them was thrown into a pond of fire and sulfur. There are beasts and false prophets there. They suffer endlessly day and night (Revelation 20:10 ).
Answer: Finally, the devil is thrown into hell by God.
5) What should we be careful about to avoid being affected by Satan and evil spirits?
First of all, it is important to acknowledge the existence of the devil. If we do not acknowledge its existence, we cannot deal with it. British writer and author of “The Chronicles of Narnia” CS Lewis wrote “The Screwtape Letters” (this book is a letter about how senior demons can trick junior demons into humans.) It is written like this. ” Human beings can fall into two errors with respect to the devil. Two are in the opposite direction, but they are just as wrong: one is not believing in the existence of the devil, and the other is doing this. Believe it and feel excessive and unhealthy interest. The devils are just as pleased with the two. “That is, if humans do not believe in the existence of the devil, then the devil’s strategy is successful.
It is written in 1 Peter 5: 8: Be modest and awake. Your enemy, the devil, is hunting for someone, like a barking lion. We must be aware of and awaken the fact that the enemy devil is real and hunting for prey to devour, and destroy humans. Isolation is dangerous. An animal that is separated from the herd and is alone is targeted by the lion. Therefore, flocking and gathering in the church will protect us. The devil has lived longer than humans. It is not omnipotent like God, but it has more knowledge and wisdom than humans. So if we try to win on our own, we will fail. Like Adam and Eve. However, we can win if we follow Jesus as an example and deal with it in the Words of the Bible.
Admit the power of the devil, but don’t overestimate it. But on the contrary, it is important not to underestimate. Now that the end of the era is approaching, the devil is becoming more active, knowing that his time is short. So be alert, don’t give a foothold, block the passage of entry into our heart, and don’t give the devil an opportunity. If you get angry, don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down with resentment. Do not give the devil an opportunity (Ephesians 4: 26, 27). It is also important to wear the armor that God has given us. Wear all of God’s armor so that you can stand firm against the devil’s plot (Ephesians 6:11). Specifically, they are the band of truth, the breastplate of justice, the provision of the gospel, the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, the sword of the Spirit (the Word of God), and prayer (Ephesians 6: 12-18).
Answer: Admit that the devil is real and is actively working to destroy humans.
6) What is the secret to defeat the devil?
To be confident that Jesus has been victorious by the devil. The Son of God appeared to defeat the work of the devil (1 John 3: 8). Jesus Christ smashed the work of the devil. The apostles, Jesus’ disciples, took over the work of Jesus and expelled demons.
Did the demons disappear because Jesus and the apostles expelled them 2000 years ago? it’s not. The evil spirits are not dead yet. It will perish at the end of the world. In modern times, God allows them to work. It can be said that this is an era of deception. The gifts and abilities to discern spirits are becoming more and more important to avoid being deceived (1 Corinthians 12:10). Don’t believe in everything spiritual. Because while there is the work of the Holy Spirit, which is a good spirit, there are many things that are caused by evil spirits, which are bad spirits. Don’t believe in all the spirits. There are so many false prophets out there that it says to examine whether the spirit is from God (1 John 4: 1).
Through occultism, Satan worship, necromancy, astrology, magic, tarot, mediums, spells, idolatry, etc., evil spirits are eager to enter the human heart. The Bible prohibits necromancy, astrology, and witchcraft. Why? They give the demons a foothold and allow them to intervene in their lives. When that happens, they will begin to be affected by evil spirits. It’s hidden at first, but it’s going to get bigger and bigger. The problem of evil spirits cannot be solved by hospitals or psychiatrists. Because this is a spiritual issue, not a physical or mental issue.
The Christians and the church are given the authority by Jesus. Believers are accompanied by the following signs: That is, anyone who drives out demons in my name(Mark 16:17) and believes in Jesus as the Savior can drive out demons in the name of Jesus. However, faith (prayer and fasting) may be required (Matthew 17: 19-21). Only Jesus’ name can release those suffering from the effects of evil spirits. Evil spirits are not afraid of anything else.
It is also written like this. Follow God and oppose the devil. Then the devil will run away from you (James 4: 7). We must first obey God before we fight the devil. Obedience to God and obedience to the Bible, the Word of God, are important. And the blood of Jesus shed on the cross (Revelation 12:11).
Answer: The secret to defeat the devil is the name of Jesus, the blood of Jesus, and the word of God.
